[News] Kim Hee-sun keeps 'Faith' new drama.

Looks like the high-budget medical sageuk drama 'Faith' isn’t dead yet, with a wave of fresh stories out to confirm that the production is now kicking back into gear, and that leading lady Kim Hee-sun — who agreed to the project two years ago — is still sticking with the project.

The drama’s had a rocky start, which you can tell just by scanning the related post titles below. It was initially planned to air in 2010, and then again in 2011. Maybe third time’s the charm.

Faith first cast Kim Hee-sun, late-’90s It Girl and star of dramas like Wedding Dress, Propose, and Tomato (more recently Smile Again and Sad Sonata). Its leading man was Lee Jun-ki (Iljimae), until he got called for army duty, after which point Kang Ji-hwan (Lie To Me, Hong Gil Dong) was brought in. Until he ran into legal troubles with the Producers Association.

So what we’ve got is a main cast that’s mostly in place, with supporting actors still attached: Choi Min-soo (Warrior Baek Dong-soo), Kim Seung-soo (I Am Legend), and Philip Lee (Secret Garden). Just no hero.

The drama is set in the Goryeo era, which spans the years 918 to 1392. It’s a medical fusion sageuk fantasy, which seems like everything but the kitchen sink, although since it comes from the director of fusion epic Legend (also Sandglass and Eyes of Dawn), I’m sure there’ll be a way to make all the elements blend. Oh wait, there’s reportedly also a comic bent. There’s that kitchen sink.

Currently the production is building the large-scale outdoor sets and working on assembling a cast. They hope to begin filming in the first half of the year, hoping to hit airwaves later in 2012. It doesn’t have a timeslot or a broadcaster yet, though; producers are in talks with SBS and MBC.
